Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actress and director known for her sexiness and edginess as well as her humanitarian work. Jolie, the daughter and actor Jon Voight, was raised in New York. After her childhood, she moved to Los Angeles, where she was the character of an inpatient with mental illness in Girl, interrupted (1999). After two years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and Film Institute, she was accepted into Beverly Hills High School. After that, she studied acting at New York University. She also appeared in theatre productions as well as modeled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) when Jolie was introduced to Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996 and divorced in 1999). The film was not able to attract an audience, as did several subsequent films. Jolie as the role of the Alabama governor's wife who is segregationist attracted a lot of attention in 1997. In the following year, she received an award called the Golden Globe Award. The following year she played the role of a model struggling with drug addiction in the HBO movie Gia which brought her numerous awards as well as an Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she starred in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and the following year , she was married to Billy Bob Thornton (divorced 2003).After her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie starred in a series of action movies. In Gone in Sixty Seconds ((2000)), she played Nicole Cage's girlfriend. Later, she switched to an accent that resembled a British accent, and mastered the art of street fighting and kickboxing, and was able to play the title roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (2004). She portrayed Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004) and also was in the film with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York City). Both films were box-office failures however, Jolie had a smash with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) which was a film where she played an assassin disguised as a typical housewife. While making the film she became acquainted with Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
